11AM to 2PM March 22nd at Fields of Athenry Farm in Purcellville, VA.
This is an organizational meeting where parents and kids can ask questions and meet the leaders of the Sheep Power Camp. We
will set forth the expectations that participants should have about the program and about the leaders. If anyone is interested
in showing at the Glenwood Livestock Show in April, please let us know at this meeting. 1st camp
week (May 26th-30th): Because the kids will
still be in school, this week we will meet in the evenings from 5:30PM-7:30PM. The purpose of this camp is to help the kids
get their projects started off on the right hoof and equip them with the skills to start showing their lambs at the one day
shows held during the summer. Monday: Feeding YOUR lamb! We will cover the
needs of lambs of different breeds, ages, and weights. Tuesday: Health Management.
Let’s prevent problems by understanding what to do to keep those Baa-Baa’s healthy. Hoof care, mineral supplement,
vaccinations, and de-wormers will be covered. Wednesday: Training the lamb….
And the showman! We will work on halter breaking techniques, setting up and bracing lambs, and catching the judge’s
eye. Thursday: Record Keeping. Get the project books up to snuff at the beginning.
We’ll help you fill out the books and talk about how to keep good records. Additionally, we’ll discuss the some
of the bonuses in showing, like scholarships and special premiums. Friday:
Show Day! This may be the date of the District Livestock Show in Culpeper, VA. If we aren’t down at the show, then we
will hold a practice show at the FOA Farm. Either way, come with your best hoof forward! *2nd Camp
